On every third Sunday of the month (unless otherwise advertised) we celebrate Holy Communion to which ALL are welcome. On every fifth Sunday of the month we have an evening service which can be reflective, creative or participatory, as planned by a worship group.
Opportunities for spiritual development and growth as well as social events are regularly organized for the church fellowship and in conjunction with our URC Heartland group partner churches in the St Albans, WGC, Luton and Dunstable. These are listed on our events calendar , Heartland bulletin and Heartland calendar, or printed in our bi-monthly church magazine out end of month.
We have a large church hall and meeting rooms which are extensively used by the URC pre-school as well as various community groups. We play an active part in the local Churches Together, we are a Fair Trade church and we support various mission and outreach activities and charities (YWAM, Commitment for Life, the local Foodbank, Keech Hospice Care, Send a Cow, etc).
Our mission statement reads:
In response to God’s call, we pray that, through worship and fellowship with us, everyone will learn more about Jesus and so come to know more of God’s love.
Harpenden United Reformed Church is a friendly, open and welcoming fellowship that offers a distinctive non-conformist and reformed church ethos in our town. We are a local church of the United Reformed Church in Britain, one of the smaller mainstream denominations that has brought together English Presbyterians, English, Welsh and Scottish Congregationalists, and members of the Churches of Christ, through unions in 1972, 1981 and 2000. We are committed to theological and cultural diversity, as well as to ecumenical friendship and cooperation with the other churches in Harpenden.
Harpenden United Reformed Church holds a morning service each Sunday at 10.30 am with about 20 to 30 attending, The Minister; Rev Jane Weedon, visiting preachers and members of the congregation take turns leading and participating in the service. Our worship style is both traditional and modern, with A/V system allowing for more flexibility and creativity. And we are fortunate to have a small choir directed by an excellent organist.
The Messy Church meets during term time and is ably led by a group of parents. We have regular family services, pet services, and carols for all and Nativity service in December. For babies and toddlers there is an area available within the church every Sunday for play.
